Boy, 14, held in stabbing

LONGMONT — A 14-year-old boy arrested Thursday on suspicion of stabbing a classmate seven times with scissors will be held in the Boulder County Juvenile Detention Center without bond until charges are filed next week.
Jackson Crutcher appeared in court Friday afternoon and stood with his attorneys and parents before Boulder County Judge T.J. Cole.
“I am going to find the juvenile is a danger to himself and the community,” Cole said.
The judge also ordered a psychiatric evaluation and scheduled filing of charges for Feb. 8.
Police believe Crutcher approached a 14-year-old girl at her Silver Creek High School locker during a passing period Thursday morning and stabbed her in the back with scissors. She attempted to run from him and fell, according to reports.
Crutcher threw the scissors against a wall, where they stuck, and went downstairs, where he turned himself in at the school’s office, police said.
The girl, who suffered six stab wounds to the back and one to her left arm, told police she did not know Crutcher. Detective Jeff Satur on Friday said the investigation had not yet shown whether Crutcher knew the girl.

“I could describe him as a person who dropped out of the early 19th century,” she wrote in a letter to the Times-Call. “He was so different from all of us.”
