BITTANEE DREXEL: STILL MISSING, STILL A MYSTERY

Brittanee Drexel: Coroner Completes Examination Of Bones Found In Search Area
David Lohr / Huffington Post / Posted: 03/29/2012

Bones found in an area of South Carolina at the center of the search for missing teen Brittanee Drexel are the remains from an animal, a county coroner determined.

"They are not human. They are animal bones," a spokeswoman for the Georgetown County Coroner's Office told The Huffington Post.

A group of fisherman found the bones on Sunday near the Carroll Campbell Boat Landing. According to the Georgetown City Police Department, hunters have been known to dump deer carcasses in the waterway.

Drexel, of Rochester, N.Y., was 17 years old in April 2009, when she went to Myrtle Beach, S.C., on spring break. The teen was last seen by friends on April 25 of that year, when she left the Bar Harbor Hotel in Myrtle Beach to meet friends at the nearby BlueWater Resort. Surveillance footage shows Drexel arriving at the resort, then leaving roughly 10 minutes later. What happened to her after that remains a mystery.

Her cell phone gave off its last signal the day after she went missing. Investigators narrowed the phone location to an area near the South Santee River in Georgetown County.

Monica Caison, founder and director of the North Carolina-based Community United Effort Center for Missing Persons, has conducted multiple searches for the missing teen. To date, no sign of Drexel has been found.

At the time of her disappearance, Drexel was 5 feet tall and 103 pounds. She had blue eyes and blond highlights in her hair. Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Myrtle Beach Police at 843-918-1382. Confidential tips can also be submitted via helpfindbrittaneedrexel.com.

KENTUCKY: 19 KIDS FOUND IN FILTHY SWELTERING HOME, JACKIE FARRAH ARRESTED

AP GRAPHICS

WLKY.com
Authorities say a Kentucky couple left 19 children unattended
for a week in a sweltering, filthy home.
Jackie Farah, told neighbors, she and Irving “Joe” Smith  had a family emergency in Michigan.

— Police in south central Kentucky have arrested a woman who is the mother of some of the 19 children left alone in a hot, filthy home near Bowling Green.

Police found the kids, including an infant, Monday night after they had been left in the home for a week.

The Daily News ( http://bit.ly/LTmubQ) reports 32-year-old Jackie Farah has been charged with 14 counts of criminal abuse and five counts of wanton endangerment. Farah returned from Chicago on Tuesday and went to the Warren County Sheriff's office, where she was charged.

Farah has been jailed without bond. Police say they are looking for another person to be brought in for questioning.

The children were treated at a hospital and placed in state custody. A neighbor says there were 13 children living in the house before six cousins came to visit for the summer.

Police say Farah and Irving "Joe" Smith left town on June 27, during a heat wave that hit Bowling Green. A neighbor called police to the house, and officers found the children alone with no air conditioning and nine dogs and a cat. A police detective said there was an inch of dog feces on the floor in one room.

A neighbor, Annie Adams, said she noticed that the parents living the house never left for work and the kids were always hanging around the house. Recently, she said, the 13 kids and the two adults were joined by six other children who were their cousins visiting Warren County for the summer.

Convicted of killing the Caffey Family in 2009
A Texas man who is the only survivor of a cold-blooded home invasion that left his wife and two sons dead says he has forgiven his daughter for planning her own family's brutal murders.

Terry Caffey said he was sound asleep on the morning of March 1, 2008, when an explosion of gunshots filled his Alba, Texas home.

"It was so loud and it's even hard to describe," Caffey told "Nightline." "I mean, can you imagine someone standing over you and shooting when you're sound asleep and now you're being attacked in your bed?"

Four years after the massacre, Caffey's story is being reenacted for the ABC TV series, "Final Witness," set to air Wednesday night at 10 p.m. He told “Nightline” that he’s learned to accept the death of his family, and has even reconnected with his daughter, Erin, who orchestrated the massacre.

The show recreates the moment Caffey was awoken by two intruders - one was Charlie Wilkinson, his 16-year-old daughter's boyfriend.

He didn't learn until later that Erin was also in on the attack.

Wilkinson and an accomplice shot Caffey's wife Penny to death and set the family's home on fire. They fired a bullet in his 13-year-old son Matthew's face and stabbed 8-year-old Tyler to death in a closet. Caffey himself was shot several times.

GLORIA LEONIDAS: ORIGAMI BIRDS

Good evening, Miss Gloria. (I call her Miss Gloria now.) Last week some very nice, very kind person made some pretty little origami birds, and placed them at your memorial site all around the lovely flowers and cards.

This week the beautiful flowers and thoughtful cards have been removed. The furry stuffed animals, bright balloons, and touching messages placed at parking spot number 97 from people who care about you and your family have been removed. But somehow they missed something.

Little origami birds!

This evening the number 2 bus slipped up the hill from downtown Seattle on Spring Street, and drove by the back of the Town Hall parking lot. I always look for you, Miss Gloria, when I'm on that bus. It pulled around the corner, and stopped at Seneca and 8th. I stepped down onto the sidewalk. Maybe no one noticed the tiny folded paper birds nesting in the plants by the bus stop. I noticed. I picked up two birds with beautiful patterns on their wings.

I took them home. I took you home, too, Miss Gloria.

GLORIA LEONIDAS: SEATTLE FRIENDS BRING FLOWERS AND WORDS TO SPOT WHERE SHE DIED

GLORIA LEONIDAS,  FACEBOOK PHOTO

By Chomp
It was Wednesday May, 30, 2012. Gloria Leonidas had parked her black Mercedes SUV in the lot behind downtown Seattle's Townhall at 8th Avenue and Seneca Street. It was here that Ian Stawicki found Gloria, and demanded her car. After all, Stawicki had just killed three people at Cafe Racer, in the University District, and had shot two others. He needed a getaway car. Gloria was between this mentally erratic, angry man, and the car he was determined to take. He shot Gloria in the head, gave the middle-finger to people nearby, and sped away in Gloria's Mercedes.

The police tracked Gloria's Mercedes and Ian Stawicki to West Seattle. He knelt down, and shot himself in the head. He was taken to Harborview Hospital where he died. Another of his victims also died at Harborview Hospital. Only one of the victims that Stawicki shot has survived.
A total of six people died that Wednesday in Seattle, for no reason!

Jo Ann Stremler heard Gloria Leonidas scream for help, and she called 9-1-1. Jo Ann Stremler saw it all. Stremler and another Good Samaritan rushed to Gloria's side. They tried to give CPR while they waited for help.

"I didn't think we could save her when we started working on her, but that wasn't the point," Stremler said. "I knew that her family would not have wanted her to die alone."
She held Gloria's hand, "Whoever you are, we are here. You are not alone."
Another bystander heard the shots and rushed to help.

"I ran up to her right away, and there was just a massive pool of blood there," said  Jason Yori. "I didn't know anything about her, so I spoke to her as a human being who was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

The Navy veteran said he gave her last rites. "I felt really special to be able to do that - for us to be there when nobody else was there with her," said Yori.
Now I will tell you another side of the story. I live nearby, but that day  I was at school. I read on the Internet that there was a shooting at 8th and Seneca. I didn't know what happened until I got home. I was afraid to ride the bus that day.

The view of the Townhall parking lot isn't visible because the trees are heavy and thick with summer leaves. I could see nothing. I asked a couple people, and they had not heard anything. It took a couple days before I realized that the shooting was behind the Townhall.

Yesterday, I walked down the street, and down the ramp into the parking lot. I found the flowers and cards and stuffed animals. A beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady.  I couldn't stay long; tears flowed and saddness tore at my heart. I would come back tomorrow, and bring my flowers to add to others. I would honor Gloria Leonidas.

Today, I walked down the street again, and down the ramp into the parking lot where Gloria died. I added my flowers to the memorial. Several people walked by, and stopped to read the cards. I wrote down the words from many of the cards, and will post them below. People wrote such beautiful words for you Gloria. I am sorry that each of us never got to meet you.
To Gloria Leonidas and your family, here are the words from the memorial. Words from people who knew you; words from people who wish they knew you.
"I lost a friend today, a co-worker and a mentor, a person who had taken me under her wing and was my partner in crime... In a senseless carjacking by a cafe murderer who needed a get away car and chose her...she fought, as she would do, and he took her life and presence. Gloria was beautiful, funny, and an incredibly intelligent woman. She was without a doubt the smartest human being I have ever known. I hurt that she's gone and I don't know what to do."

Another tribute is a lovely light green card with a red tulip and a butterfly.
"What a beautiful difference one single life made"

Inside someone wrote, " It breaks my heart to think of everyone Gloria touched in her life. I cannot imagine what her children are going through right now--but find comfort in knowing what a strong, successful woman she was--that so many people will always love and remember Sunshine"

Another message was hard to read, and a couple were a bit smudged from the rain, but the important thing to remember is Gloria knows your kind and loving words. There were more words inside this card showing love for this woman. My apologies for the words I couldn't read.

Patti wrote something touching about Gloria's girls and her husband. "My heart goes out to them at this tragic time. She had a big beautiful heart that will be missed."

With Deepest Sympathy, Lighting Supply

Another card said this on the front (I couldn't read the words inside.)
Now and always may time be your friend
May hope be your refuge
May love be your guide
May peace be your ally
May comfort be your keeper

Another message was hand written, and placed in plastic to protect it from Seattle's rain.
"Dear Friend
I'm sad to say that I never met you, never had the chance to have coffee or have polite conversation at a local coffee house. Never saw you smile or cry or love. I do know these were gifts taken from you too soon. I hope you knew good people were around and your family should see all good. It's sad you were taken from us in such a violent way. I hope your family heals soon because you are in heaven now. I have sprinkled love over this spot, prayed and cried for you. I walk by every day, in silence, remembrance. Know that you were love. Know that we care. Know that good is all around and know that you can use your angel wings to soar above us all.

(heart symbol)
your fellow human and friend
- Kole"

I can say no more.

This family has been so terribly hurt, so terribly injured. I posted these messages so someday they may read them, and they may know that we cared, and they may know that not everyone in the world is evil. Most of us are good, caring people, and we feel so bad and so sad about what happened.

2 charged with murder in Hempstead slaying
David Valle and Louis Ruiz, described as lieutenants in the MS-13 street gang's Hempstead clique, or chapter, were indicted Thursday at the federal courthouse in Central Islip in the murder of Michael Alguera, then 15, according to court papers filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Durham.

The arrests followed a three-year investigation by the FBI and Nassau County homicide detectives, which concluded that Alguera was accidentally caught up in gang rivalry, according to officials.
"He was not a gang member. . . . He was an innocent child. What a way to lose his life," said Det. Lt. John Azzata, of the Nassau County police homicide squad. "It's something that every parent has to feel" concerned about when they send their kids to school, he added.

Valle and Ruiz had come to Hempstead High School in the afternoon along with half a dozen other MS-13 members, seeking revenge against members of the rival SWP gang, which supposedly had stolen the blue-and-white "flag" or bandanna of a student MS-13 member, according to sources familiar with the case.

Sierra LaMar Suspect Watched for Weeks Hoping He Would Lead Them To Teen

Santa Clara County police said today they had been following the suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Sierra LaMar since March 28, hoping he would lead them to the missing teen.
Antolin Garcia Torres, 21, was arrested Monday and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder and kidnapping, according to the sheriff's department.

Police said he was not being cooperative and they are still looking for LaMar.

The girl's mother, Marlene LaMar, made an emotional plea to Garcia-Torres at a news conference today.

"Please give the information that you have to lead us to Sierra to help end this nightmare. I would like you to come forward and say where she is and end this nightmare for us as a family." she said.

LaMar said she is holding out hope her daughter is still alive.

"Until she is found, our search is still not going to end," she said. "As a mother, still I am hopeful because her body has not been found and that gives me hope."

The cheerleader disappeared on March 16 on her way to a school bus. Two days later, authorities found her cellphone and Juicy brand bag containing a pair of folded jeans and a T-shirt two miles from her home.

DNA was found on several of the teen's belongings and was run through a state database, said Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith. That DNA was a match for Antolin Garcia Torres who had a submitted DNA during a felony arrest that had not been prosecuted, she said.

MISSISSIPPI: ADAM MAYES DEAD, TWO BAIN GIRLS SAFE; TERESA MAYES CHARGED WITH MURDER

Alleged Tennessee family kidnapper dead, girls found safe
Published May 10, 2012  /  FoxNews.com

The Mississippi man suspected of killing a Tennessee mother and daughter was caught Thursday evening and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, authorities say, while the other two young daughters he is suspected of kidnapping were found alive and safe.

Adam Mayes, 35, on who was added to the FBI's Most Wanted Fugitive List Wednesday, was caught in Mississippi after police received a tip.

Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall says a SWAT team located Mayes in New Albany, Miss., and when they moved in to apprehend him, he shot himself.

Edwards said Mayes was still alive -- in critical condition -- after police took him into custody. He later died from wounds, the FBI confirmed.

Police say the two daughters that Mayes allegedly abducted, Alexandria Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8, were found alive and safe. Both girls were being taken to a hospital for observation. It was not immediately clear if they were with Mayes when he was found.

Mayes and his wife, Teresa, are charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Jo Ann Bain, 31, and her daughter, Adrienne, 14. Their bodies were found buried outside the Mayes' home a week after they were reported missing by Jo Ann Bain's husband, Gary.

Teresa Mayes told investigators that after she saw her husband kill the two in the garage at the Bain home, she drove him, the younger girls and the bodies to Mississippi, according to affidavits filed in court. She faces six felony counts in the case: two first-degree murder charges and four especially aggravated kidnapping charges.

SEATTLE: MARIZELA PEREZ -WHAT ARE POLICE DOING TO FIND HER???

MARIZELA PEREZ

Where is Marizela Perez? Families frustrated when loved ones vanish

Marizela Perez's family believes Seattle police could be doing more to find the missing University of Washington student. But they have also learned what other families in similarly heartbreaking situations face: There are few resources devoted to finding missing adults and limited avenues for law enforcement to pursue when there's no evidence of foul play.

By Christine Clarridge  /  Seattle Times staff reporter
Originally published May 19, 2011 at 10:00 PM

Perhaps Marizela Perez is hiding out somewhere, gathering the courage to tell her parents she dropped out of chemistry, switched her major to art and got a tattoo.

At least that's what her parents hope.

The alternatives, say Jasmin and Edgar Perez, are too horrible to accept.

Marizela, an 18-year-old University of Washington freshman, was seen leaving a Safeway store on Brooklyn Avenue Northeast on March 5. She has not been seen since.

Police and her relatives say there was no evidence of an abduction, no note left by Marizela, no indication of what may have happened to the only child, whom her father called "the center of our family."

Her relatives filed a police report and put up hundreds of fliers, held fundraisers, created Facebook pages, hired a private investigator, searched woods and parks with teams of trained dogs and even had the case featured twice on television's "America's Most Wanted." Marizela's cousin, conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, has written about the disappearance in her nationally syndicated column and on the website http://www.findmarizela.com/.

Still, nothing.

Database on missing adults

IN AN EFFORT TO CREATE a comprehensive national database on missing adults, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) is asking people with information about specific missing-person cases to enter it into a free online database, which is accessible to medical examiners, coroners, law enforcement and the general public.

In the past, the only national repository of missing-persons' data was
the FBI's National Crime Information Center,
which can be used only by law-enforcement agencies.

A hiker carries his dog past a sign advising of a closed trail just miles from where a gun-toting survivalist is suspected of killing his wife and daughter several days earlier Friday, April 27, 2012, in North Bend, Wash. Peter Alex Keller may be holed up in a self-made fort not far from where Seattle's outer suburbs give way to the vast recreational playground of Cascade Mountains. Police expect more people to hit the nearby trails this weekend, and deputies are warning them to steer clear of Keller if they think they see him.

Body found in mountain bunker
By GENE JOHNSON, ASSOCIATED PRESS / SeattlePI.com
Updated 12:11 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012

After a nearly 23-hour standoff, police blew up the top of an elaborate bunker in the Cascade Mountains on Saturday and found the body of a man inside — believed to be that of a survivalist wanted in the deaths of his wife and daughter last weekend.

The suspect appeared to have shot himself, King County sheriff's Sgt. Katie Larson said. Officials were awaiting positive identification of the body.

The raid ended a tense week for law enforcement officials who tried to track down 41-year-old Peter Keller, a gun enthusiast described by his family as having a "survivalist mentality." That Keller was likely armed and on the loose in an extremely popular hiking and mountain-biking area east of Seattle kept many people on edge.

Keller had spent eight years building the bunker into the side of Rattlesnake Ridge, police said. It was thoroughly camouflaged and had multiple levels.

SWAT teams spent a grueling seven hours on the mountainside Friday morning, virtually crawling over dangerously steep terrain slick with mud from recent rains, before they found the bunker. A number of officers were treated intravenously for dehydration, and one broke his ankle, said sheriff's Sgt. Cindi West said.

After long shifts, the officers appeared exhausted, their faces smeared with camouflage paint, as they rode down the mountain in sport-utility vehicles or armored carriers to be replaced by fresher teams.

SWAT officers who kept watch on the bunker through Friday night said they saw lights going on and off, and they believed its occupant had everything necessary to remain inside for a long time — including a generator, food, gas mask, bullet-resistant vest and many guns.

KERRI HARDING: KIDNAPPED BY RAYMOND MOODY. DID HE TAKE BRITTANEE DREXEL?

Kerri Harding, 38, is seen in an undated photo provided to FoxNews.com. Harding was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in 1983 by Raymond Moody, a "person of interest" in the 2009 disappearance of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel (inset). (FoxNews.com)

Three years after Brittanee Drexel’s disappearance, a victim of ‘person of interest’ speaks out
By Cristina Corbin
Published April 25, 2012  /  FoxNews.com

Police say Raymond Moody is a “person of interest” in the disappearance of Brittanee Drexel, the 17-year-old from upstate New York who vanished in South Carolina exactly three years ago today.

But to Kerri Harding, Moody is the monster who abducted and raped her in 1983, when she was just 8, and she’s convinced he should be the prime suspect in the Drexel case.

Harding survived the attack in California, but the terrifying memory of her ordeal has never left her. Drexel disappeared from South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach on April 25, 2009, and is presumed dead. Police told FoxNews.com there are similarities between the two cases, and said they confirmed Moody was in the area near where Drexel was last seen. But authorities don’t have enough evidence to declare him a suspect, and to Harding’s horror, he refuses to speak to them.

“My biggest fear is that he’ll do it again,” said Harding, now 38. “You should never get a second chance to hurt a child.”

Moody, 52, served 21 years of a 40-year prison sentence after admitting to sexually assaulting Harding and six other girls. He relocated to Georgetown, S.C., after his release from the California State Prison in Solano in 2004. The ex-con, who police say works in a woodworking shop, could not be reached for comment.

Harding has monitored Moody’s whereabouts since his release, and knew he had resurfaced in South Carolina.

When she came upon a February article on FoxNews.com reporting that Moody is a person of interest in Drexel’s disappearance, she said she had no doubt that her tormentor had struck again.

Killgore Murder: Second Suspect Arrested

By DEAN SCHABNER and ALYSSA NEWCOMB (@alyssanewcomb)

abcnews  /  April 24, 2012

A Marine already charged with illegal possession of an assault rifle was arrested today on suspicion of murder in the killing of Marine wife Brittany Killgore.

Staff Sgt. Louis Ray Perez, 45, was arrested on the new charge at Vista Detention, where he is being held.

Killgore, 22, of Fallbrook, Calif., disappeared April 13, after telling friends she was going out in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. Her body was found four days later, dumped near Lake Skinner in Riverside County, Calif.

Jessica Lopez, 25, was already charged with first degree murder in Killgore's death. She entered a not guilty plea in court April 19, and was ordered held on $3 million bail, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

Lopez was arrested at a Ramada Inn in San Diego on April 17, while she was being treated for an undisclosed medical condition at an area hospital. She is now in jail.

Key to the case was an apparent suicide note found in Lopez's hotel room, that detailed the 22-year-old Killgore's fate and the location of her body, according to ABC News affiliate KGTV in San Diego.

According to legal records, Lopez once lived with Perez, who had been considered a person of interest in the case since the investigation into Killgore's disappearance began. Police had said they believed he may have been the last person to see Killgore alive.

Perez was arraigned April 18 on an unrelated charge of possession of an AR-15 assault rifle and was ordered held on $500,000 bail.

Authorities have not commented on the connection between Killgore, Lopez and Perez.

Sierra LaMar Search Moves Off-Road Saturday

The sheriff's off-road unit will use ATV's to search the South Coyote Creek Trail area Saturday
for missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar.

Investigators will take the search for missing teen Sierra LaMar off road Saturday, Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials said.

The sheriff's off-road unit, mounted on ATVs, will search the South Coyote Creek Trail and the Cochrane Road to Bernal Road area Saturday, officials said.

The continuing search for LaMar, 15, follows the discovery Thursday of suspicious items near her home, including an empty box labeled "stainless steel handcuffs" and a couple of used condoms.

It is not clear whether the items, discovered by volunteer searchers with the KlaasKids Foundation at the end of Palm Avenue west of Santa Teresa Boulevard in Morgan Hill, are connected to the case, Santa Clara County sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.

The items, found in an area where young people often congregate, are being analyzed.

Hundreds of volunteers have been scouring the area surrounding LaMar's home this week after sheriff's officials reclassified the case as an abduction and announced they had all but ruled out the possibility that the sophomore had run away. LaMar was last seen the morning of March 16 before she left for school but never showed up for classes.

Investigators later found Sierra's cellphone off of a roadway near her home around Dougherty and Palm avenues as well as her black, Juicy-brand purse, which contained a folded pair of pants and a T-shirt belonging to the teen.

Sheriff's dive teams with specially trained rescue K-9s took to the area's waterways to search for human remains and hundreds of volunteers have been participating in search efforts organized by The KlaasKids Foundation.

Founded by Mark Klaas, whose 12-year-old daughter Polly Klaas was kidnapped from her Petaluma home in 1993, the organization is managing the volunteers and deploying its own search-and-rescue resources to help find Sierra.

Frank Birgfeld of Centennial has searched for the body of his 34-year-old daughter on the Western Slope for 4½ years, but Wednesday's news that her remains were found by a hiker in a creek bed in Delta County brought cold comfort.

"I don't know about closure," he said on his cellphone as he neared Grand Junction on Wednesday afternoon, on his way to talk to investigators. "I think of my daughter at least three or four times a day every day. The fact that we found out where she is, I don't know that this is going to change that.

"Whatever closure is, damned if I know," he said.

Dental records led investigators from several agencies to determine the remains were those of Paige Birgfeld, the 34-year-old mother of three young children whose burned car was found in Grand Junction on July 1, 2007. She had been missing for three days at that point.

A hiker found skeletal remains of a woman at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday off U.S. 50 in the Wells Gulch area in Delta County, about 30 miles southeast of Grand Junction and about 15 miles west of Delta.

Frank Birgfeld said the area where the body was found had been searched thoroughly in 2007 after a man with a flat tire found Paige Birgfeld's checkbook, still in good condition, on the pavement, as though it recently had been tossed out a car window.

"It's bittersweet," said Connie Flukey, executive director of the Western Slope's Abby and Jennifer Recovery Foundation, which searches for missing persons in memory of Abby and Jennifer Blagg, who went missing from their Grand Junction home in 2001.

Jennifer Blagg was 34 years old when her body was found in a Mesa County landfill. Her husband, Michael, was convicted in her death in 2004. Their 6-year-old daughter has never been found.

"I always knew she would be found someday," said Flukey, reached on her cellphone en route to the site where Paige Birgfeld's body was found. "Today was that day. At the same time, it's heartbreaking to see what the family is going through.

"At least they can bring her home."

BLAKE LITTON: T.J. PRESLEY, MOM'S BOYFRIEND BEATS BOY TO DEATH

BLAKE LITTON'S KILLER: MOM AND BOYFRIEND

More charges filed against Presley

lakenewsonline.com  /  Posted Mar 05, 2012

Morgan County, Mo. — Additional charges have been applied to a Stover man accused of beating his girlfriend's 3-year-old son to death.

Thomas Joseph (T.J.) Presley, 21, is now also facing two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and abusing a child resulting in death, according to online court records. The charges are class C felonies and a class A felony, respectively.

Presley was originally charged with second-degree murder, a class A felony, stemming from the Feb. 16 beating that left Blake Litton, 3, dead.
Presley told police he lost control after Litton had soiled his pants, and he hit and kicked the child "more times than he could remember".

Later, the child was found unresponsive in the couple's home. Presley said he thought the child was paralyzed.

Fearing prosecution by police, Presley attempted to cover up the abuse by staging a hit-and-run accident just north of Stover on Route 135 near Buttons Road.

Blake's mother Jamie Ann Litton, 25, was also arrested and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child for her alleged role in failing to tell police the true nature and cause of Blake's injuries.

Before Presley called 911 about the fraudulent hit-and-run, Presley exchanged several text messages with Litton informing her about the abuse. Presley had also told Litton his plan of faking a car accident so Blake could receive needed medical attention while Presley avoided prison.

BRITTANEE DREXEL UPDATE: RAYMOND MOODY, CHILD RAPIST, PERSON-OF-INTEREST

Sex offender eyed in cold case disappearances of 2 women in South Carolina
By Cristina Corbin
Published February 16, 2012  /  FoxNews.com

A convicted child rapist is being eyed by South Carolina cops in the disappearances of two young women, including a New York teenager who disappeared while on spring break in Myrtle Beach almost three years ago, FoxNews.com has learned.

Detectives say Raymond Moody is the primary “person of interest” in the 2009 disappearance of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel, who was last seen on surveillance video leaving a popular Myrtle Beach hotel along Ocean Boulevard in a case that sparked widespread media coverage. Moody, who served 21 years in prison for abducting and raping a California girl in 1983, is also being looked at in connection with another missing woman, 28-year-old Crystal Soles, law enforcement sources told FoxNews.com.

Both women are presumed dead, though exhaustive searches in the rugged terrain between Myrtle Beach and Moody's home some 50 miles south of the popular destination have been fruitless. Authorities have classified Drexel's disappearance a "cold case," meaning they renew their probe whenever they receive credible, new information. Myrtle Beach investigators have received such information within the last week, though they declined to elaborate.

Drexel, a high school junior from the Rochester area, went with friends and without her mom's permission to Myrtle Beach on April 23, 2009. A video camera at the Blue Water Resort captured her leaving the hotel on April 25 close to 9 p.m., police said. The footage is the last known sighting of her.

Investigator Phillip Hanna of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said a signal from Drexel’s cellphone was detected about 50 miles south of Myrtle Beach later that night – in a remote boat landing area near the South Santee River and roughly 8 miles from the Sunset Lodge apartments in Georgetown County where Moody had been living at the time.

TACOMA, WA: SUSAN POWELL'S SONS, CHARLIE AND BRADEN, MORE THAN A THOUSAND AT FUNERAL

More than a thousand remember Powell boys at public funeral

TACOMA, Wash. – More than a thousand people mourned the deaths of Charlie and Braden Powell at a public funeral Saturday, nearly a week after the young boys' father killed them and himself in a gas-fueled blaze.

"We want to celebrate their innocence today," said the Rev. Dean Curry, lead pastor of Life Center Church in Tacoma. "We want to be grateful for the moments we had with these children."

The boys' grandfather Chuck Cox thanked police, social workers, teachers and everyone who cared for Charlie, 7, and Braden, 5, as well as people who had prayed for the boys after they died.

It "helps us to know that there are good people in the world -- good people who fight against evil," Cox said.

At the front of the church's sanctuary, the boys were in a single casket topped with a large flower arrangement that included daisies, roses and sunflowers.

"We know that they're with their mother," Cox said, remembering his daughter, Susan Powell, who has been missing for two years and is presumed dead.

The boys' father, Josh Powell, was in the middle of a custody battle with Cox when he torched his rental home in Graham last Sunday.

Josh Powell was a person of interest in his wife's disappearance in Utah two years ago, and prosecutors consider the fire an admission that he killed her.

Cox gained custody of the children more than five months ago after police arrested Josh Powell's father, Steve, on voyeurism and child pornography charges.

The kids were arriving for a supervised visit when Josh Powell blocked a social worker from entering the home. He then attacked the boys with a hatchet and torched the house, authorities said.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said Saturday that Josh Powell's body will be released to a cousin Monday.

About 1,200 people attended the boys' funeral at Life Center Church in Tacoma. Many of them wore purple and blue ribbons in memory of Susan, Charlie and Braden.

GRAHAM, WA: JOSH POWELL, WHOSE BLOOD FOUND IN STORAGE UNIT?

Friday, Feb. 10, 2012

Comforter in Powell unit tests positive for blood
Friday, Feb. 10, 2010  /  kirotv.com
By MANUEL VALDES  /  The Associated Press

SEATTLE —
Police in Washington state who searched a storage unit rented by Josh Powell found a stained comforter that tested positive for blood in initial exams, according to documents filed in court Friday.

Pierce County detectives reported finding a gray-blue-pink comforter with a stain. The search warrant documents say the comforter tested positive for blood. Investigators planned to perform further tests.

Powell killed himself and his two young sons in a gas-fueled inferno Sunday, and Pierce County authorities consider the murder-suicide an admission that he killed his wife.

Investigators had considered Josh Powell a person of interest since his wife, Susan Powell, disappeared in Utah in 2009. At the time, Powell said he took his two sons ice camping in subfreezing temperatures.

Also on Friday, the sheriff's department released a timeline that spans from Saturday, the day before the blast, to Monday, the day after. Among the details that police are trying to determine is if Powell bought the gas cans at a local Fred Meyer store the night before the house fire.

This past week, investigators have tried to piece together Powell's last days, serving search warrants for his sister's cell phone and a local Bank of America branch where security cameras captured him withdrawing money.

JOSH POWELL: BOTH JOSH AND DAD, STEVEN POWELL, HAD SEX IMAGES ON COMPUTERS

Powell had 'incestuous' images on his computer, police say Published February 10, 2012
Associated Press  /  FOX NEWS.COM

SEATTLE – Before Josh Powell was going to try to win back custody of his children last week, Washington state authorities received materials from Utah police that had been discovered on a computer in Powell's home two years ago. Authorities say the images depicted "incestuous" sex and were disconcerting enough that they prompted a psychologist to recommend that Powell undergo an intensive psychosexual evaluation.

But a lawyer for Powell's in-laws, who had custody of the boys, wasn't invited to see the materials before the custody hearing - even though a Utah judge had specified in a sealed court order that he was one of the few people allowed to see them.

Had he seen the images, attorney Steve Downing said, he might have asked the court to change the terms of Powell's supervised visitation with the boys, such as by asking for the visits to be in a public place. Instead, Downing said he didn't learn until Thursday morning - four days after Powell killed himself and the boys in a house fire - that he was allowed to see them.

"That would have absolutely given me the opportunity to submit a declaration about our deep concern. I was approved ... to view those pictures and I was never notified," Downing said. "I could have gone into all the reasons why the visitation could have or should have been restricted."

(snip)

Last year, authorities searched Steve Powell's home, computer and cars for evidence in Susan Powell's disappearance - and instead said they found thousands of voyeuristic pictures and videos, including child pornography recorded by Steve Powell. The state took custody of the boys and turned them over to Susan's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox.

JENNIFER WALSTRAND: KILLER DANIEL THREADGILL GUILTY OF 1ST DEGREE MURDER

UPDATE: Guilty verdict in 2010 slaying of Des Moines woman

Threadgill faces a minimum of 30 years in prison

By Ty Swenson  /  02/08/2012  /  The Highline Times

Update for Feb. 8

From Master Sgt. Bob Bohl, Des Moines Police:

On Monday, Feb 6, a jury convicted Daniel A. Threadgill 12/17/87 of Murder 1st Degree for the brutal stabbing death of Jennifer Walstrand. Jennifer was discovered at her residence in the 24000 block of 25 Ave S on August 31, 2010. In June 2011, the Des Moines Police Department Investigations Unit received information from “Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound” relating to the murder of Jennifer Walstrand. The Des Moines Police Department’s Investigations Unit followed up on this information and arrested Daniel Threadgill.

From the King County Prosecutor's Office:

A King County jury convicted defendant Daniel Threadgill of the crime of Murder in the First Degree for the brutal stabbing and beating death of Jennifer Walstrand in August of 2009. Walstrand was stabbed at least 63 times and her head was severely stomped on, leaving brutal injuries. Police uncovered Threadgill as the murderer only after several cooperating witnesses who were present at the time of the attack came forward. The attack was motivated by jealousy and a dispute over prostitution.

Senior Prosecutor Carla Carlstrom also obtained a guilty finding that the murder was committed with deliberate cruelty. A sentencing date has been set for March 23rd. Threadgill faces a minimum of 30 years in prison.

Josh Powell Tragedy: Son Said Mom Was In Trunk of Car, Lawyer Claims

By KEVIN DOLAK, OLIVIA KATRANDJIAN, DEAN SCHABNER and COLLEEN CURRY

Feb. 6, 2012

The young sons of Susan and Josh Powell, who died with their father when he ignited an explosion in their Washington home, were beginning to verbalize that their mother was in the trunk of their father's car on the night that she disappeared in 2009, a lawyer for the missing woman's parents said.

Attorney Steve Downing told the Associated Press that Braden and Charles Powell, who were 2 and 4 at the time of Susan Powell's disappearance, were beginning to tell their grandparents details about the night that their father took them on a late-night camping trip during a blizzard, including the fact that their mother disappeared after leaving in the car with their father.

"They were beginning to verbalize more," Downing said. "The oldest boy talked about that they went camping and that mommy was in the trunk. Mom and dad got out of the car and mom disappeared."

Sgt. Mike Powell of the West Valley City Police Department in Utah did not return phone calls inquiring about the children's assertions about their mother's presence on the December 2009 camping trip, AP reported.

"Quite frankly, this has obviously quickly unfolded up in Washington and we're obviously just working through the details ourselves here," Powell, who is not related to the family, said earlier on Sunday.

Josh Powell set off an explosion at his home Sunday that killed himself and his two sons, who were there for a supervised visit.

(snip)

Graham, Wash., Deputy Chief Gary Franz told ABC News that a Child Protective Services (CPS) worker had just dropped off Powell's two sons at the house for a supervised visit. Powell took his two sons inside the house and then locked the CPS worker out.

"The children were just right in front of her as she was walking up to the door," Child Protective Services spokeswoman Sherry Hill said. "They went into the house and Josh shut the door right in front of her and locked it."

The CPS worker smelled gas, stepped away and the house exploded. The case worker was not physically harmed.

"He grabbed the kids, locked her out of the house, and immediately the house went up in flames, very quickly, very big, so we believe that Josh Powell intentionally set this fire," Troyer said.
