At 15, Michael Alguera still had the soft, rounded cheeks of a child, even as he stood on the cusp of adulthood.

He loved a good video game session, tossing around a football, and playing handball, his family said.It was on the handball court at Hempstead High School, where Michael was a sophomore, that he was stabbed to death in a robbery on Friday afternoon, according to Nassau police.

"He was such a good boy," his father, Oscar Alguera, said Saturday at the family's Hempstead apartment. "He didn't deserve to die this way."

Relatives and friends flowed in and out of the apartment, hugging the elder Alguera as he stood in the kitchen with a stunned expression. Michael's mother, Clementina, 44, was grieving in another room.

"It was our baby," said Alguera, 40, who works as a contractor. "Nobody wants to lose their kid."Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Michael was playing handball with a 15-year-old fellow student and another 16-year-old friend when they were ambushed, said Det. Lt. Michael Fleming at a news conference at police headquarters in Mineola Saturday.

From the handball court, the friends saw seven to nine young men, some wearing masks, approach them from the wooded area next to Peninsula Boulevard, Fleming said.

The group of men forced the three teenagers against the handball wall and took their cell phones and an MP3 player, and as the assailants began leaving, one of them stabbed Michael once in the torso with a long knife, Fleming said, before the group fled on foot eastbound on Peninsula Boulevard. There were no arrests as of Saturday evening.

EVIDENCE LINKS GARY MICHAEL HILTON TO MURDERS

The Cruel Face of an Evil Man: Gary Michael Hilton

Police: Evidence links Georgia murder suspect to N. C. slayings
January 16, 2008

(CNN) -- Authorities have evidence linking the man charged in the kidnapping and murder of a Georgia hiker with the slaying of a couple from North Carolina, a law enforcement official said Wednesday.

Although investigators would not specify what kind of evidence they have, they believe Gary Michael Hilton is involved in the October slaying of Irene Bryant and the presumed death of her husband John, Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney said.

After the couple went for a hike in Pisgah National Forest, Irene Bryant's body was found near the couple's car. John Bryant's body has not been found.

"This investigation has resulted in the investigative team being able to establish a positive link between Gary Michael Hilton of Transylvania County and specifically to the case involving John and Irene Bryant," Mahoney said at a brief news conference.

No questions were taken at the briefing, and Mahoney said details on the timing or venue of criminal charges are not being revealed now in order to maintain the integrity of the case. Hilton also is under investigation in Florida.

THIS CASE IS FAR FROM OVER...

CHOMP HAS SOMETHING TO SAY...
This man was once a mother's baby, fresh-born, with a clean soul. A child full of wonder about the world. How does a child grow up to become a monster, a person to be feared, a person to be loathed?

What happened to that innocent part of Gary Michael Hilton? Who caused him so much hurt that he is compelled to hurt others? Or did he just come that way?

I have wondered this about many people. Have you?

DENISE AMBER LEE: BODY FOUND, MICHAEL LEE KING ARRESTED

Denise Amber Lee

Cops Find Body in Search for Mother of 2
Believed Abducted From Florida Home
Saturday, January 19, 2008

NORTH PORT, Fla. — Florida police on Saturday say they have found a body "likely" that of a missing mother of two, a day after arresting a man in connection with her alleged abduction and finding blonde hair and a woman's ring in his car, MyFoxTampaBay.com reports.

Denise Amber Lee, 21, is thought to have been taken on Thursday from her North Port home, where her husband, Nathaniel, arrived to find the door locked and their two young children alone inside.

Authorities arrested Michael Lee King, 37, after Lee made a secret 911 call using his phone. In the recording, Lee is heard saying, "Please let me go," North Port Police Captain Robert Estrada said.

"We were able to identify the cell phone number," he said, which is what led the police to King, who was apprehended on charges of kidnapping and intent to commit a felony.
King's cousin, Ashley Queen, said King asked an acquaintance to borrow a shovel, a gas can and a flashlight.

"Originally he said he needed a shovel and gas to get the lawn mower unstuck and when he [the acquaintance] went over there, he realized there was no lawn mower and Mike wasn’t there and neither was the girl," Queen said.

Detectives said they recovered a shovel, a long strand of blonde hair and a woman’s ring from King's car.

WHO IS THE ABDUCTOR, MICHAEL LEE KING?

SARAH AND AMINA SAID: 9-1-1 CALL WHILE THEY DIED

Police Release 911 Call Of Killed Lewisville Teens
ReportingBud Gillett
Jan 16, 2008

IRVING (CBS 11 News/AP) ― What were likely the dying words of a 17-year-old girl found shot to death alongside her sister on New Year's Day can be heard on a 911 recording released Wednesday by police, who are still searching for the girls' father.

Often, in a major crime case, the 911 call can offer clues that are vital to the investigation. CBS 11 News has received the 911 calls from the murders of Lewisville sisters, Sarah and Amina Said.

"Help," says a crying voice, later determined by police to be Sarah Said. "I'm dying. Oh my God. Stop it.

"Amina, 18, and her sister were found shot multiple times in a cab outside an Irving hotel. A capital murder warrant has been issued for their father, Yaser Said, 50, who has not been seen since the Lewisville High School students were found dead.

Police could not immediately find the girls after Sarah called 911 from a cell phone around 7:33 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Today many people have questions about what's heard during the girls' call for help.It was a frantic last call from younger sister Sarah.

Click here to listen to the call in its entirety
(WARNING: This call is graphic).

The call came before Sarah Said died and lasted less than a minute. Police presume Sarah called from inside the taxi where the sisters were slain.

SHANNON HARPS: DO SEATTLE POLICE HAVE THE KILLER?

Last updated January 16, 2008 11:22 p.m. PT
Break in Capitol Hill stabbing case
Man in custody has violent past

(P-I columnist Robert L. Jamieson Jr. contributed to this report.)

A parolee being held in a state prison facility is being investigated in connection with the New Year's Eve killing of Sierra Club worker Shannon Harps, but Seattle police were declining to call the man a suspect Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old man, who has a history of violent assaults against women, was picked up for violating conditions of his parole several days after the killing and is being held in the state correctional facility at Monroe awaiting Department of Corrections proceedings.

Harps, 31, was stabbed repeatedly about 7:10 p.m. New Year's Eve near her condominium in the 1500 block of East Howell Street. Police have been circulating a sketch of a man said to have left the scene while others rushed to Harps' aid, but that bearded man hasn't been named, and investigators are still calling him a "person of interest."

Seattle police would not confirm whether the man being held in Monroe was a suspect or even a person of interest in the Harps case.

(snip)

Police said he has a lengthy history of violence against women. On Oct. 28, 2003, Seattle police arrested him after he beat up a girlfriend. The woman told police her boyfriend came home drunk and punched her in the face several times after they began arguing about his drinking.

"He told her he could kill her slowly and painfully, and this would fulfill his fantasy," the officer wrote in his report.

VAMPIRA: MAILA NURMI DIES AT 85

The beauty of Maila Nurmi

Maila Nurmi; actress, TV horror film hostess Vampira
By Jocelyn Y. Stewart, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

In the early days of television, when horror movies were often campy by nature, actress Maila Nurmi created the character Vampira, a glamorous ghoul who as hostess of late-night fright films in the 1950s layered on her own brand of camp.

Vampira played with her pet tarantula, gave gruesome recipes for vampire cocktails and bathed in a boiling caldron. With a knack for the double-entendre and the requisite blood-chilling scream, Vampira was a hit.

The character won Nurmi short-lived fame and a dedicated cult following. Nurmi claimed Vampira was also the uncredited inspiration for later ghoulish yet glamorous female characters in film and television, including Elvira.

Nurmi, who also appeared in the 1959 Edward D. Wood Jr. movie "Plan 9 From Outer Space," was found dead in her Hollywood home Jan. 10. The cause of death was still being investigated, said Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Nurmi was believed to be 85, although sources offer conflicting dates of birth.

Born Maila Syrjäniemi in Finland, Nurmi immigrated to the United States when she was a toddler. By 17, she had dropped her surname and taken on that of her famous uncle Paavo Nurmi, a world-class runner known as the "Flying Finn."

In her teens, she moved to New York, and then Los Angeles, to pursue a career in acting.Little came of Nurmi's efforts to land conventional leading roles in theater or on-screen. The unconventional came calling in 1953, after Nurmi attended a Hollywood masquerade ball dressed as the ghoul of Charles Addams' New Yorker cartoons.

CESAR LAUREAN: COWARD -WE WILL FIND YOU!

Slain Marine mourned as search intensifies
Sheriff warns prime suspect: 'You’re never gone for good'

Associated Press

VANDALIA, Ohio - Hundreds prayed for Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach and hailed the pregnant Marine for her strength, vitality and service as law enforcement officials warned the man suspected in her killing that they would hunt him down.

The search for Marine Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean entered its fourth day Tuesday with a $25,000 reward and a plan to post billboards of his picture nationwide.

“The search for Laurean is Earthwide,” Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said Monday. “You’re never gone for good when law enforcement is after you.”

(snip)

Inside St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia, Ohio, about 10 miles north of Dayton, hundreds of friends offered prayers Monday for Lauterbach.

“This evening, we are suffering,” the Rev. Francis Keferl told a spillover crowd of more than 800 people.

'Determined to succeed'A table outside the sanctuary held family photos of Lauterbach as a young girl huddled with siblings on a couch and blowing out birthday candles.

Lauterbach’s mother, Mary, dabbed at her eyes during the 40-minute service. A congregant gave her a pink rose.

Mary Lauterbach has said the physical demands of the Marines appealed to her daughter, and that she liked boot camp. Her father, Victor Lauterbach, is an Air Force Reserve master sergeant, and the couple adopted Maria as a baby. They have four other children.

“She joined the Marine Corps for a big challenge,” said Marine Staff Sgt. Sam Mao, a recruiter in Huber Heights, where she joined the Marines in 2006. “She was determined to succeed.”

(snip)

Suspect sighted?Lauterbach’s ATM card was found at a bus station in Durham, about 150 miles northwest of Jacksonville. Witnesses reported seeing his black four-door pickup truck in the Raleigh and Durham area, Brown said.

Other witnesses said they thought they saw him Saturday night at a bus station in Shreveport, La.

The FBI and United States Marshals are involved in the search for Laurean, who is expected to be charged with murder when he is arrested. The first billboards with Laurean’s photo went up in Columbus, Ohio, and others are expected in Tampa, Fla., and Las Vegas.

ARCHBISHOP EARL PAULK: 80-YEAR -OLD PERVERT...AND SINNER!

Paulk Accused Of Child Sex Abuse
Provided by: The Associated Press
Last Modified: 12/18/2007 8:18:25 AM

ATLANTA (AP) -- Add an adult granddaughter to the list of women who say the leader of a suburban Atlanta megachurch sexually abused them or coerced them to have sex.

Penielle "Penie" White first told WAGA-TV last week and confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday that Archbishop Earl Paulk, 80, co-founder of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit at Chapel Hill Harvester Church, touched her inappropriately when she was about 8 years old. She said she made the allegations in a sworn deposition a few months ago as part of a lawsuit against Paulk, who is accused by a former church member of coercing her into a sexual relationship.

Paulk has been hit by multiple lawsuits, but does not face criminal charges."He started out playful, tickling and sort of fondling," White said in a phone interview. "But as a child, you don't know that's what he's doing."

White said she also was present when her grandfather fondled Jessica Battle, another young member of the church, who later sued Paulk in 2001 for molestation and rape. That case was settled out of court two years later.

Senior pastor of Cathedral at Chapel Hill D.E. Paulk is pictured in his home Friday Nov. 9, in Marietta, Ga. DNA tests revealed that Bishop Earl Paulk, D.E.'s uncle and the church's founder, who has been plagued with sexual lawsuits, is actually D.E.'s biological father.

Megachurch Leader Charged With Perjury

10:20 PM PST, January 14, 2008

ATLANTA -- An 80-year-old leader of a suburban megachurch who is at the center of a sex scandal has been charged with lying under oath for saying he had sex outside marriage with only one other woman, court documents show.

A warrant for the arrest of Archbishop Earl Paulk, co-founder of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit at Chapel Hill Harvester Church, was issued Monday, according to court documents. Paulk was making arrangements Monday night to turn himself in, WAGA-TV reported.

His attorneys did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Former church employee Mona Brewer is suing Paulk, his brother and the church on allegations that Paulk manipulated her into an affair from 1989 to 2003 by telling her it was her only path to salvation. In a 2006 deposition stemming from the lawsuit, the archbishop said under oath that the only woman he had ever had sex with outside of his marriage was Brewer.

But the results of a court-ordered paternity test revealed in October that Paulk is the biological father of his brother's son, D.E. Paulk, who is now head pastor at the church. As part of Brewer's lawsuit, eight women have given sworn depositions that they were coerced into sexual relationships with Earl Paulk.

Second Body Found in Search For 4 Kids Thrown From Alabama Bridge
Sunday, January 13, 2008

MOBILE, Ala. — A second body was recovered Sunday in the search for four children allegedly thrown from a coastal bridge by their father, the sheriff said.

The body was found by a search team near where a duck hunter found the body of an infant about five miles west of the bridge in a marshy area on Saturday, said Mobile County sheriff's Sgt. Jerry Taylor.

Cochran said searchers using sonar technology saw images Friday that they believed were three bodies, but the currents were so strong the divers were unable to get to the location.

Divers re-entered the water Saturday and worked until darkness forced them out of the water without finding the other three bodies. Authorities expanded the search zone westward toward Pascagoula, Miss., believing that the strong currents may have moved the bodies in that direction. The search resumed Sunday morning.

Arizona Serial Rape Suspect Arrested, Linked to Attacks by DNA
Sunday, January 13, 2008

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A suspect in the sexual assaults of several young girls in Chandler has been arrested and police said Saturday that DNA positively links the man to the case.

Santana Batiz Aceves, 39, was booked into a Maricopa County jail in Phoenix on 25 counts of kidnapping, sexual assault and trespassing in connection with the assaults that began in June 2006, police announced at a news conference. They said the most recent attack linked to the case occurred June 8 on a 14-year-old girl.

Police had been searching for months for a man who raped four girls and attempted to assault two others in the Chandler area.

All of the victims have been girls between the ages of 12 and 15, according to authorities.

Chandler Police Chief Sherry Kiyler said Aceves is an illegal immigrant who was deported twice for drug charges in California in 1999 and 2003.

Authorities said Aceves worked as a heavy equipment operator and lived in the area of the sexual assaults for the last 18 months.

Police said all of the attacks occurred within a two-mile radius of the suspect's rented home, which is located between two junior high schools.

It was not immediately known if Aceves had legal representation yet. A person who answered the door at Aceves' home Saturday declined comment.

Kiyler said detectives working a saturation patrol Friday morning in the area of the most recent assault spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect and who was driving a white 2-door car that also matched a police description.

The man was released after being questioned, but officers later got a warrant to search his home and obtain his DNA.
