Boy Shoots Dad's Pregnant Fiancee Before School, Police Say

WAMPUM, Pa. — Fifth-grader Jordan Brown boarded the bus and headed to school like he did most other mornings in this rural western Pennsylvania community.

But before he left home on Friday, authorities say, the 11-year-old boy had shot his father's pregnant fiancee in the back of the head as she lay in bed. He then put his youth model 20-gauge shotgun back in his room before going out to catch his bus, police say.

Brown was charged Saturday as an adult in the death of 26-year-old Kenzie Marie Houk, who was eight months pregnant, Lawrence County District Attorney John Bongivengo said. Houk's fetus died within minutes due to a lack of oxygen, Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga said.

Houk's family and friends, who gathered at her parents' house Saturday night, told The Associated Press that there had been past problems with the boy.

The boy's father, Christopher Brown, is "a mess" and had no indication his son had a problem with Houk, Elisco said.

"He's in a state of actual shock and disbelief," he said.

The shotgun used is designed for children and has a shorter arm and such weapons do not have to be registered, Bongivengo said. Jack Houk, 57, said the boy and his father used to practice shooting behind their farmhouse, and the two enjoyed going hunting together.

WHY DID JORDAN BROWN, AGE 11, KILL?

Think the media had any involvement? Where do kids get the idea they can get away with murder? The media. When conversations are publicized about trials as juveniles or adults these kids pick up on that shit. They figure, hey if Im going to a foster home, I may as well shoot the asshole and get away with it because Im a minor.

Adults cannot give a child a gun and then charge him for using it as a child. Obviously the child had problems that everyone ignored as usual. The birth mom did not have a steady relationship with this boy. His father raised him with some help from the boys' grandmother. The birth mom lived near him and was busy raising her 12 year old daughter. This boy had to move and live with his step mom, 2 female sibling, and a baby on the way within a few months. He may have viewed the birth of the baby as the loss of his father. (his mom is raising her 12 year old daughter not him) His step mom may not have wanted him in the picture either and maybe she wanted him to live with with the grandmother. She may not have treated him that good. The whole thing is sad but the boy needs extensive counseling and to be handled with kid gloves because he is one. I feel very sorry for him. I do not believe he really could understand what was ahead of him. He just did not want to lose his father and be alone. This is terrifying.
