GREENSBORO, N.C. — Federal prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against a man charged with killing the student body president of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Friday that Attorney General Michael Mukasey has approved prosecutors' request to seek the execution of 22-year-old Demario Atwater. Atwater pleaded not guilty last month to four federal charges, including carjacking resulting in death, in the slaying of Eve Carson. His trial is set for November.
There was nothing she thought she couldn’t do, no problem she thought she couldn’t help tackle, and no person she believed she couldn’t learn something new and valuable from. That was her special burden, her friends said, and her remarkable gift.
